As part of ºìÐÓÊÓƵ University’s commitment to fostering global exposure and experiential learning, a second group of participants had the valuable opportunity to attend the International Week (I Week) at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong from July 1 to 6, 2025.

Among them were three remarkable siblings: Shanthini Nyanasehgaran and Srahnji Nyanasehgaran, both pursuing programmes at ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Business School in Accounting and Finance and Business Management, respectively, and Nishanthini Nyanasehgaran, an ICAEW student at ºìÐÓÊÓƵ TES, experienced a transformative journey that combined academic learning, cultural exchange, personal development, and global dialogue. The event explored topics of global significance, including sustainability, entrepreneurship, digital innovation, and social impact.

From the outset, the energy at IIM Shillong was intellectually stimulating. The three participants engaged in thought-provoking sessions delivered by renowned speakers who explored India’s socio-economic challenges through the lens of digital transformation, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, environmental responsibility, and economic development. The passion and authenticity of the speakers left a lasting impression, encouraging critical thinking and active participation.
Among the most inspiring sessions were those led by the founders of Little Box and the CEO of Nohi Mohi. The three of them were deeply moved by the speakers’ reflections on purpose-driven leadership, resilience, and navigating challenges with values-based decision-making. These encounters served as powerful reminders that impactful entrepreneurship is about solving real problems while staying grounded in purpose and integrity.

A particularly memorable moment was the visit to a traditional Eri silk weaving enterprise. This immersive field experience offered a rare glimpse into how innovation and tradition can coexist. Observing the detailed craftsmanship and interacting with local artisans gave them a broader understanding of sustainable business practices rooted in culture and community empowerment.

Their participation in a community-led river clean-up initiative was equally meaningful. Working alongside delegates from across the globe, the three of them experienced firsthand the value of environmental stewardship and civic responsibility. It reinforced the belief that leadership is often demonstrated through simple, consistent actions that benefit society.
Beyond academic sessions and fieldwork, they also enjoyed a vibrant cultural evening that celebrated the rich traditions of North-Eastern India. Through music, dance, cuisine, and storytelling, they gained a deeper appreciation of the region’s heritage while forming lasting connections with fellow participants.

One of the most enriching aspects of the programme was the opportunity to engage with a diverse international cohort. Through meaningful interactions with students, faculty, and professionals from various countries, the three participants developed their skills in cross-cultural communication, adaptability, and collaboration, which are key attributes for emerging global leaders.

Sharing this journey as siblings added a deeply personal dimension to the experience. Together, they supported one another’s growth, encouraged mutual reflection, and strengthened their understanding of leadership grounded in empathy and shared purpose. This experience was more than just an academic milestone. It became a defining chapter in their journey as future change-makers.

Their active engagement and takeaway from this programme illustrate how global exposure, community-based learning, and ethical leadership development can shape well-rounded individuals. The knowledge, perspectives, and values they brought back will undoubtedly continue to influence their academic and professional paths as they move forward with renewed purpose and commitment.

For future students who may have the opportunity to join the International Week at IIM Shillong, the advice is simple: approach the experience with an open mind and a willingness to listen, learn, and connect. Embrace every moment, whether in the classroom, during a community project, or through cultural exchange, as a chance to broaden your horizons. Ask questions, challenge your assumptions, and engage wholeheartedly. This programme is not just about academic learning; it is about becoming a more thoughtful, empathetic, and globally minded individual.
