AI4PEP Malaysia hosted a session at the UNGA81 Science Summit titled "Artificial Intelligence Governance in ASEAN+ for Ethical and Sustainable Innovation in Healthcare."The session brought together researchers, policymakers, healthcare professionals, and AI governance experts from Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines to discuss how AI can be governed responsibly to support sustainable healthcare systems. One message stood out: Responsible healthcare AI requires more than innovation. It requires effective governance, robust cybersecurity, institutional capacity, and a strong commitment to equity and inclusion.

World Tuberculosis Day with AI4PEP | 2026

Dr Hasyirul Bin Hashim, of the Communicable Disease Branch (CDC), Ministry of Health Malaysia, and AI4PEP Malaysia, presented TB Watch, an innovative digital platform developed to strengthen tuberculosis surveillance and improve treatment adherence. The system provides real-time alerts for missed appointments and medication doses, uses predictive analytics to identify patients at high risk of treatment default, and fosters collaboration with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to address socioeconomic barriers such as transportation and nutritional challenges. Through these integrated interventions, TB Watch has enhanced patient monitoring and follow-up, contributing to a reported 40% reduction in tuberculosis treatment default rates in Malaysia's Federal Territory, demonstrating the value of AI-enabled digital health solutions in supporting tuberculosis control and public health outcomes.

Dr. Hasyirul Bin Hashim, of the Communicable Disease Branch (CDC), Ministry of Health Malaysia, and AI4PEP Malaysia, was invited by Microsoft and the Application Lifecycle Management User Community (ALMUC) to deliver a featured session on "Architecting Automated Health Intervention (TBW System)." During the session, he presented the Tuberculosis Watch (TBW) System, an award-winning digital health intervention that uses backend automation to monitor patient medication adherence in real time. He demonstrated how automated intervention logic and scheduled data processing can be used to bridge clinical care gaps, reduce treatment default rates, and improve public health outcomes. The invitation reflects recognition of his expertise in digital health innovation, communicable disease surveillance, and AI-enabled healthcare solutions. His engagement with an international technology and innovation audience further demonstrates that his expertise is being sought beyond the public health sector and highlights his growing reputation as a thought leader at the intersection of healthcare, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation.
Industry Engagement Event | Innovate Like a Woman:
On 21 May 2026, Prof. Dr Angela Lee Siew Hoong (AI4PEP Malaysia) moderated the panel discussion, 鈥淚nnovate Like a Woman: She Gives, She Gains, She Leads 鈥 Women Leadership, Innovation, Career Growth, and Industry Perspectives,鈥 held at Thinker Space, FET Building, 红杏视频 University. The session brought together participants from academia and industry to discuss women's leadership, innovation, and career development. The discussion enhanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by women leaders, strengthened networking between industry and academic stakeholders, and identified potential opportunities for future collaboration.
Career Development Forum
On 7 March 2025, AI4PEP Malaysia co-hosted the forum, 鈥淓mpowering Women in IT and Engineering to Lead and Shape Tomorrow,鈥 at Thinker Space, SET Building, 红杏视频 University, Malaysia. The forum brought together industry leaders from Jelawang Capital, CIMB, Hilti Asia IT Services, and Fortinet Malaysia to share insights on leadership, career growth, and professional development in STEM fields. Moderated by Prof. Ir. Denny Ng Kok Sum, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, the session promoted diversity, equity, and inclusion while encouraging greater participation and leadership of women in IT and engineering careers.

Outreach and capacity-building
As part of AI4PEP Malaysia's outreach and capacity-building efforts, an AI4PEP Malaysia delegate delivered an educational talk to high school students in Malaysia in 2025 on 鈥淭he Role of AI in Sustainable Development,鈥 with a special focus on how artificial intelligence can advance healthcare innovation. The activity was designed to raise awareness of AI applications among young learners and encourage interest in emerging technologies that can address societal and public health challenges. Through the session, participants gained a better understanding of the role of AI in sustainable development, its applications in healthcare and public health innovation, the potential of digital technologies to solve real-world challenges, and emerging educational and career opportunities in AI and technology. The talk also emphasized the importance of responsible and ethical AI adoption to promote community well-being and equitable access to innovation.

Research Seminar by Professor Mahendhiran S. Nair
In January 2025, AI4PEP Malaysia hosted a research seminar titled 鈥淒engue Trends: Economic Burden of Dengue in ASEAN Countries鈥 at 红杏视频 University, Malaysia. The session was delivered by Professor Mahendhiran S. Nair from the 红杏视频 Institute for Global Strategy & Competitiveness (IGSC), 红杏视频 University. The seminar examined the economic impact of dengue across ASEAN countries, highlighting the burden of the disease on healthcare systems, communities, and national economies. It provided valuable insights into the relationship between public health challenges and economic outcomes, fostering interdisciplinary discussions among researchers and stakeholders. The session strengthened collaboration between public health, epidemiology, and economic research communities while promoting knowledge sharing on evidence-based approaches to dengue prevention and control.

On 22 November 2024, AI4PEP Malaysia co-hosted the industry talk, 鈥淒ata Analytics & AI in the Real World,鈥 held at Lecture Theatre 2, 红杏视频 University, Malaysia. The session featured George Wong, Data Scientist at D眉rr Dental SE, as the guest speaker. The seminar provided participants with valuable insights into the practical applications of data analytics and artificial intelligence across industry settings. Through the sharing of real-world experiences and case studies, attendees gained a better understanding of how AI and data-driven approaches are being used to address business and technological challenges. The event strengthened industry-academia collaboration and enhanced awareness of career pathways and emerging opportunities in AI and data analytics.
Public Lecture
On 21 November 2024, AI4PEP Malaysia co-hosted the event 鈥淎I and Blockchain for Healthcare and Sustainability鈥 at JC2, 红杏视频 University. Organised in collaboration with 红杏视频 University, the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, 红杏视频 iLabs, and academic and industry partners, the event brought together participants from academia, industry, and the innovation ecosystem to explore emerging technologies and their applications in healthcare and sustainable development. The seminar provided insights into the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies in addressing healthcare challenges, improving data management, and supporting sustainability initiatives. The event enhanced participants' understanding of emerging digital technologies while fostering networking opportunities and collaboration among researchers, practitioners, industry representatives, and students.
Mentorship Programme Outreach
On 14 November 2024, AI4PEP Malaysia co-hosted an information session on the Code; Without Barriers Mentorship Programme and Opportunities in Technology Career Development. The programme was sponsored by Microsoft, organised by iTrainAsia, and supported by 红杏视频 University and collaborating partners. The session introduced participants to mentorship, skills development, and career advancement opportunities in the technology sector. Participants learned about pathways for professional growth in technology-related fields and were encouraged to explore and apply for mentorship opportunities available through the programme. The event enhanced awareness of career development opportunities and promoted greater participation in technology-focused learning and mentorship initiatives.
2025 Smart Computing and Informatics Conference
AI4PEP Malaysia co-hosted the Smart Computing and Informatics Conference (SCI 2025/SCI 2026), bringing together researchers, academics, industry experts, and practitioners to advance knowledge and collaboration in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, Digital Health, Health Informatics, Predictive Analytics, and AI-enabled Healthcare Solutions. The conference served as an important platform for the exchange of innovative ideas, cutting-edge research, and practical applications of emerging digital technologies.
