Future Cities Research Institute
The Future Cities Research Institute (FCRI) is a joint research institute between and ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University. Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, it builds on existing strengths at ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ and Lancaster. The FCRI complements the work of the Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development at ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University, and capitalises on Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah’s pioneering leadership in developing sustainable urban environments.
The Institute maximises the impact of the wide variety of relevant, world-leading research undertaken at Lancaster University, and builds on existing research collaborations between the two institutions.
The FCRI creates an innovative, interactive platform for collaborative research, training, education, consultancy and engagement across the future cities’ agenda. Its interdisciplinary approach to research supports international collaboration to tackle global challenges and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University recently welcomed researchers from Lancaster University for the ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ x Lancaster Future Cities Grand Challenge 2026: Horizon Europe & Global Grants Co-Design Workshop, reinforcing their strategic research partnership through Future Cities Research Institute (FCRI).
