This course introduces students to gamelan traditions through hands-on instrumental practice, cultural analysis, and ensemble collaboration. Students will explore tuning systems, melodic structures, and interlocking rhythmic techniques across the semester of progressive rehearsals. The course culminates in a public ensemble concert, assessed on technical proficiency, cultural understanding, and collective musicianship.

• Analyse the cultural, historical, and philosophical contexts of gamelan traditions and performance practices. (C4, PLO2)                                                                            
• Practise foundational playing techniques on gamelan instruments in an ensemble context. (P3, PLO3)
