Overview
Film Studies introduces students to film art and film form, with a particular emphasis on narrative filmmaking. Students will be exposed to the fundamentals and key concepts in film form and film style in order for them to develop the ability to evaluate and articulate filmic works. There will also be a focus on certain seminal filmmakers and on their key motion-pictures to better understand what is special or significant about those within the larger context of modern cinema and how influential they have been on subsequent filmmaking.
On completing the course, students will be able to:
- Analyse with examples essential elements of film art, film form and narrative filmmaking.
- Objectively-interpret research findings about key filmmakers.
- Conceptualise film art, film form, and narrative filmmaking through engagement with learning materials.
