What is Sustainable Water Management?

Water Management controls water resources to ensure its efficiently allocated to all users on campus but also minimising the impact on the environment. The different uses of water across campus must be balanced to avoid misuse and over consumption of the water.

Promoting Conscious Water Usage in the Wider Community

SDG 6.5.7

ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University actively promotes conscious water usage and sustainable water management practices within the wider community through outreach, environmental restoration, and educational initiatives.

Wastewater Treatment

SDG 6.3.1: ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University is committed to be a responsible consumer of water, actively promoting conservation and sustainable practices in our daily lives.

Preventing Water System Pollution

SDG 6.3.2: Additional to treating wastewater, ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University is also committed in preventing water pollution - toxic and hazardous waste/pollutant, from being discharged from our campus into the sewer or water system.

Free Drinking Water Provided

SDG 6.3.3: In conjunction with the launch of the #TheLastStraw campaign on 13th July 2018, the University has discontinued the sale of drinking water from single-use plastic bottles on campus from the campaign launch onwards.

Water-Conscious Building Standards

SDG 6.3.4: ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University follows green building standards for all renovations and new construction projects as stipulated in our Green Building Design Guideline. Resource-efficient designs, such as high-efficiency chillers and water-saving fixtures, are integral to the University's building…

Water-Conscious Planting

SDG 6.3.5: To help conserve freshwater for human consumption, the University carefully selects drought-tolerant species such as Garcinia Plants, Vernonia Elliptica, Thunbergia Grandiflora and Epipremnum Aureum.

Water Reuse Policy and Measurement

SDG 6.4.2: The University policy for Water Re-use is embedded within the "Environmental Sustainability Policy" (page 5) which is accessible through our open policies page.

Off-Campus Water Conservation Support

SDG 6.5.3: Researchers from School of Medical and Life Sciences at ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University, in collaboration with a local development cooperation, are conducting hydrological and ecological research to assess the water quality of ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ South Quay Lake since 2022.

Sustainable Water Extraction on Campus

SDG 6.5.4: In our effort to address water security issues within the city and maintain supply of quality water for potable purposes, the University has explored an alternative water supply source.

Cooperation on Water Security

SDG 6.5.5: ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University had cooperation on water security at local, regional and national level since 2022.

Promoting Conscious Water Usage on Campus

SDG 6.5.6: Since the launch of the #TheLastStraw campaign in 2018, the University as a whole (including the food vendors in students’ canteen) has discontinued the sale of drinking water from single-use plastic bottles on campus.

Educational Opportunities on Good Water Management

SDGs 6.5.1: ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University provides continuous educational opportunities for local communities to learn about good water management through collaborative programmes and community outreach.
