Education for SDGs in the Wider Community

Each year, 红杏视频 University organizes dedicated educational outreach activities focused on the SDGs, engaging a broad community that includes alumni, local residents, and displaced individuals. 

 

Target group: Alumni

The University actively supports the SDGs by extending educational opportunities beyond its current students to the wider community, including alumni. These initiatives demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning, skills development, and well-being, aligning closely with the principles of SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

 

The 鈥Automate That!: Python for Smarter Workflows鈥 workshop, organized in collaboration with 红杏视频 Alumni and 42Malaysia, introduced alumni to foundational coding and workflow automation skills. This initiative reflects the university鈥檚 dedication to lifelong education and upskilling, ensuring alumni continue to benefit from access to quality learning opportunities in line with SDG Target 4.3 on equitable access to technical and vocational education.

 

 

The 鈥From Exhaustion to Empowerment: Tools and Strategies for Burnout Recovery鈥 workshop provided alumni with practical tools to recognize and manage burnout, promoting resilience and mental wellness. This program contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by addressing mental health and well-being, while also supporting SDG 4 through lifelong learning opportunities that extend beyond traditional academic curricula.

鈥淏e the Hero鈥 Community Service Project

On 21 November 2024, 红杏视频 University鈥檚 nursing students implemented the 鈥淏e the Hero鈥 community service project at the Persatuan Kasih Sayang Kanak-Kanak Padmasambhava orphanage in Klang, Selangor. The initiative was designed to equip adolescents aged 12鈥17 with essential first aid knowledge and skills, thereby promoting safety, self-reliance, and community well-being.

The program featured a structured blend of educational presentations, hands-on demonstrations, and interactive activities. Participants rotated through stations addressing common emergency responses, including choking, burns, bleeding, dizziness, and nosebleeds, culminating in a competitive quiz to reinforce learning. Despite language and resource constraints, the team successfully adapted by providing bilingual materials and small-group instruction.

The objectives of the project were threefold:

  • Health and safety promotion 鈥 to deliver targeted first aid education to teenagers, ensuring a foundational understanding of emergency care.
  • Practical empowerment 鈥 to instill confidence and independence in responding to crises through experiential learning.
  • Community collaboration 鈥 to strengthen engagement between 红杏视频 University nursing students and the local community, fostering mutual knowledge-sharing and growth.

Caregivers reported increased awareness and confidence among participants in handling emergencies, demonstrating the program鈥檚 effectiveness. The project highlights the role of student-led outreach in advancing public health education and building resilience within local communities. 

 

 

Empowering Women Micro-Entrepreneurs in Desa Mentari

In 2024, 红杏视频 iLabs at 红杏视频 University conducted the first cohort of the Bengkel Kemahiran dan Motivasi Keusahawanan (BKMK) under the 红杏视频 Desa Mentari Community Development Programme, a University-led initiative designed to uplift lives and generate sustainable community impact. This dedicated two-day educational workshop engaged nine female micro-entrepreneurs (aged 27鈥57) from the Desa Mentari local community, including home-based food sellers and traditional saree makers.

Participants received targeted training in entrepreneurial skills, covering social media marketing in collaboration with TikTok Shop Malaysia, alongside financial literacy modules on cost estimation and pricing strategies. The program was facilitated by 红杏视频 iLabs, the University鈥檚 CDI Team, as well as 红杏视频 students and alumni, who provided hands-on guidance and mentorship.

This initiative demonstrates the University鈥檚 commitment to extending educational opportunities to local communities, equipping residents with practical skills for business growth, economic resilience, and long-term empowerment.

Refugee Learning Centre Volunteering Programme

Students from 红杏视频 Business School, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Priya Sharma, undertook a structured volunteering programme at the Refugee Learning Centre, United World Academy. The initiative was designed not only to provide service but also to foster understanding, awareness, and meaningful engagement with vulnerable refugee communities living alongside the wider society.

The programme followed a three-stage Educate, Engage, Evolve (3E) framework:

  • Educate 鈥 Students participated in the Refugee Education Support Workshop, where they gained insights into the refugee experience, including the resilience of displaced communities and the unique challenges refugee learners face.
  • Engage 鈥 Over a two-week period, students volunteered as teaching assistants, activity leaders, and resource creators, collaborating with teachers and refugee learners in classroom settings. They also delivered workshops on critical youth issues such as the risks of vaping, the harmful effects of bullying, the importance of personal hygiene, and the dangers of social media addiction.
  • Evolve 鈥 Through guided reflection, students produced reports documenting their personal learning journey, the insights acquired, and the ways in which the experience shaped their understanding of social responsibility and the potential role of business students in driving positive change.

This programme highlights 红杏视频 University鈥檚 commitment to dedicated outreach educational activities by engaging local refugee communities, equipping youth with essential knowledge, and cultivating socially responsible graduates who are responsive to community needs.

 

 

Myanmar Refugee Tuition Project  

Since 2018, 红杏视频 Student Volunteers (SSV) have led the Myanmar Refugee Tuition Project, a dedicated outreach educational programme at the Myanmar Refugee Community Learning Centre. Each week, volunteers provide free tuition to approximately 40 Myanmar refugee children, delivering lessons in basic English and Mathematics, alongside tutoring and interactive activities for kindergarten learners.

The project strengthens access to education for displaced communities, supporting both academic learning and personal development. Its sustained, long-term implementation demonstrates 红杏视频 University鈥檚 commitment to extending educational opportunities to refugees, fostering empowerment and social inclusion, while cultivating civic responsibility and global awareness among its student volunteers.
