Biography
Dr Teoh graduated with a medical degree in 1999 from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed his postgraduate training in 2009, earning a Master’s in Pathology from the University of Malaya. He initially worked at Penang General Hospital under the Malaysian Ministry of Health before joining the University of Malaya as a senior lecturer. Dr Teoh was promoted to Associate Professor in 2017 and briefly served as the Head of the Department of Pathology at University of Malaya / University Malaya Medical Center, prior to transitioning to private practice at Ƶ Medical Centre.
Dr Teoh also served as a Consultant Pathologist at University Malaya Specialist Centre, specializing in diagnostic surgical pathology and cytopathology. Additionally, he worked as a pathologist at Genomic Medical Science @ UM (GEMS@UM), a laboratory focused on diagnostic molecular pathology in surgical and cytopathological samples.
With a strong interest in clinical research, Dr Teoh has been involved in various clinical trials and has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers in fields including breast, gastrointestinal, and female genital tract pathology. His current research focus is primarily in breast pathology. He was part of the committee that developed the consensus guidelines on Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2)-low testing in breast cancer in Malaysia (2024) and served as a member of the technical working group responsible for updating the technical requirements in Cytopathology for laboratory accreditation under Standards Malaysia.
Dr Teoh has also held leadership roles within the professional community, including serving as the past treasurer of the College of Pathologists, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia. He has been actively involved as an examiner and coordinator for the Conjoint Master in Pathology (Anatomical Pathology) programs and was a member of the Conjoint Board for Pathology. He also contributed to the development of the Pathology National Post-Graduate Program.
