Biography

Dr Hazel is a lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Sir Jeffrey Cheah ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Medical School with expertise in evolutionary genomics, biostatistics, and bioinformatics. Her research centres on zoonotic spillover and genomic epidemiology of infectious diseases. She previously served as INGSA-Asia (International Network for Governmental Science Advice Asia chapter) representative in a collaborative initiative with the U.S. National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), addressing the prevention of high-consequence pathogen spillover through science-policy engagement. Her current research integrates genomic surveillance, data analytics, and cross-species comparative studies to support public health strategies and strengthen outbreak preparedness in the region.
