Overview
Linear algebra plays a comparably profound role in both theoretical and applied mathematics, as well as in statistics, economics and finance and many other disciplines. A proper grounding in linear algebra is an important prerequisite for the understanding of higher level of mathematics and actuarial courses. The topics include matrix algebra, row-echelon form, systems of linear equations, inverse, determinants, Cramer’s rule, matrix for linear transformation, vector spaces, basis and dimension, rank and nullity, inner product space, orthogonal and orthonormal bases, characteristic polynomial, eigenvalues, eigenvectors, diagonalization, Cayley-Hamilton theorem, applications.
On completing the course, students will be able to:
- Explain the concepts and properties of matrices and determinants.
- Solve problems related to geometrical and vector spaces in linear algebra.
- Conceptualize various concepts in linear algebra in solving real-life problems.
