Biography

Dr Kurt R. Schatz is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University. An ethnomusicologist, he focuses on Balinese performing arts, computational ethnomusicology, and improvisation. His PhD at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz produced the thesis Kendang Tunggal in Practice: Ethnographic, Collaborative, and Computational Perspectives on Balinese Solo Drum Improvisation. He has presented at international forums including ICTM/ICTMD PASEA, SoMoS, SEM, and ESEM. His recent publications address Balinese solo drum practices, music–dance relations, and computational methods, alongside editorial contributions to volumes on dance and performance studies.
