Media Professional Capacity Development Workshop

Media Professional Capacity Development Workshop

Planetary health is a multidisciplinary field that explores the intricate relationships between environmental change, human well-being, and the stability of our planet. It encompasses pressing issues such as climate change, pollution, food security, and the impacts of environmental degradation on human populations. Media professionals who receive specialised capacity development in planetary health play a pivotal role in bringing these complex and often abstract issues to the forefront of public discourse, enabling more informed decision-making and inspiring collective action.

ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Centre for Planetary Health (SCPH) has conducted a series of four workshops under the Planetary Health Media Professional Capacity Development Workshop, titled:

  1. Understanding and Reporting Climate, Air Pollution and Health

  2. Extreme Heat and Health

  3. Air Pollution, Plastic Pollution and Health

  4. Planetary Health and Power: Covering the Intergovernmental Agenda

This capacity development programme aims to equip journalists with the knowledge and skills necessary to report on planetary health issues through a more holistic lens. Media professionals trained in planetary health are better positioned to connect the dots between seemingly disparate topics, uncover the root causes of environmental challenges, and highlight the human experiences that often go unnoticed.

In today’s fast-paced information landscape, media professionals with this training act as catalysts for positive change. By fostering greater understanding and empathy among the public, they can help drive collective action, promote sustainability, and contribute to a healthier, more resilient planet for future generations.
