Doughnut Economics In Ipoh
The "Ipoh Doughnut Festival" is a community-centric programme designed to introduce and immerse the Ipoh community in the principles and practices of Ipoh Doughnut Economics. This festival serves as a pivotal "exit strategy" for the ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Centre for Planetary Health's ongoing work ‘Living Within the Doughnut in Ipoh’, funded by the Yayasan Hasanah Grant. This programme also marks the formal transfer of ownership and implementation stewardship of the Ipoh Doughnut Economics framework to Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (MBI). This transition positions the local authority as the key implementing institution responsible for the long-term sustainability of this initiative, while also providing opportunity to showcase the work of Doughnut Economics to Ipoh residents . This programme will be a great platform for other local authorities to understand the opportunity offered by Doughnut Economics and an idea in replicating it to their respective municipalities.
Doughnut Economics, developed by Kate Raworth previously in 2022 workshop sessions, provides a compelling framework for sustainable development, aiming to meet the needs of all people within the means of the planet. The "Ipoh Doughnut" adapts this global concept to the local context, identifying the social foundations and ecological ceilings specific to Ipoh. This festival will be a vibrant, interactive platform to showcase the tangible outcomes and future potential of integrating these principles into Ipoh's urban planning and community life.
