Assoc. Prof. Dr Ho Joon Kim

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoe Joon Kim received a B.S. from Johns Hopkins University in 2009 and both an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2015, all in Mechanical Engineering. His Ph.D. thesis focused on developing heated MEMS cantilevers for nanometrology and nanomanufacturing. He spent two years at Carnegie Mellon University as a postdoctoral scholar, working on the development of GHz-piezoelectric MEMS resonators in the Gian Piazza group within the Electrical and Computer Engineering department. Dr. Kim is currently with the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics at DGIST. He is the leading PI of the Nano Materials and Devices Lab, which focuses on developing smart sensors and energy systems for environmental monitoring and robotics applications. His group is working on synthesizing multifunctional materials, such as piezoelectric, magnetoelectric, and perovskite materials, as well as carbon-based nanomaterials, with a specific focus on integrating novel functional materials into CMOS devices for scalable manufacturing. His research has led to more than 120 journal publications, including highly reputable journals such as Advanced Energy Materials, Nano Energy, and Advanced Functional Materials, as well as 20 patents. Prof. Kim is also serving as the Vice President of International Affairs at DGIST.
