Biography

Dr. Sharareh Pourebrahim is an Associate Professor at the Jeffrey Sachs Centre on Sustainable Development, ºìÐÓÊÓƵ University, Malaysia. Her research focuses on sustainable land-use dynamics, environmental planning, and policymaking to support sustainable development and resilience in socio-ecological systems.

She has over two decades of academic and research experience in sustainability science, environmental planning, and spatial analysis. Her research explores interdisciplinary approaches to environmental sustainability, particularly through ecosystem services accounting, strategic environmental assessment, and spatial land-use planning. She has contributed extensively to

research addressing global sustainability challenges, including climate change adaptation, sustainable agriculture and food systems, and integrated management of water-energy-food-ecosystem systems. Her work also emphasizes nature-community resilience planning and the application of decision-support tools for environmental policy and land-use planning.

Dr. Sharareh has conducted research on ecosystem resilience, ecological footprint assessment, and integrated water management in environmentally sensitive regions such as river basins and coastal ecosystems. Her research output includes publications in international peer-reviewed journals on topics such as ecosystem service valuation, environmental impact assessment, and spatial planning for sustainable development.

She has extensive experience in teaching and mentoring. She has supervised numerous master's and doctoral students in environmental planning, sustainability science, and spatial modelling. She has also led and participated in several national and international research projects aimed at improving ecosystem resilience and advancing nature-based solutions for sustainable development.

Her current research focuses on evaluating ecosystem services in urban wetlands and developing community-based strategies for water resource management, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable land-use planning in Southeast Asia.
