NCUT Mobility Programme in IC Design

Overview

This workshop provides a foundational overview of semiconductor manufacturing, introducing participants to the key principles, process steps, and technologies used in integrated circuit (IC) fabrication. Adapted from the Principles & Tech. of Semiconductor Manufacturing syllabus, it offers a structured understanding of how modern chips are produced—from raw silicon to final packaged devices.

The programme covers core topics such as substrate materials, oxidation, diffusion, ion implantation, lithography, physical and chemical vapor deposition, etching, process integration, and final packaging/testing. Emphasis is placed on understanding process flow, equipment fundamentals, quality control, and measurement techniques essential for ensuring device performance and yield.

Participants will gain insights into both traditional and advanced fabrication technologies, including new materials, modern lithography methods, and current trends in IC manufacturing. By the end of the workshop, learners will have a clear conceptual overview of the semiconductor process chain and be prepared for deeper study or practical cleanroom training.
