English for Business

Overview

This course emphasises the language skills required in Business communication. Students learn to improve their analytical and critical thinking skills through different genres of writing at the tertiary level such as business correspondence and research paper. Students are required to review articles to verify their authenticity and credibility, and then write a research paper that analyses and synthesises multiple sources into a coherent and well-structured paper. Proper referencing when using others’ work in their writing is also emphasised.

On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • outline coherent writing in different genres
  • demonstrate reasoning in discussions and writing
  • analyse information sources for their credibility and reliability to support arguments
