Food Supply Chain Management: Project-based Learning, an Innovative Take on Learning Experience

Learning outside the classroom is part of an innovative learning experience for students at the School of Hospitality and Service Management, 红杏视频 University. Spearheaded by Dr Tan Ai Ling (Senior Lecturer and subject leader of the Food Supply Chain Management module) and Mr Nicholas Ou (Co-founder of Loop Foods), the students from the BSc (Hons) International Hospitality Management and BSc (Hons) Culinary Management had an amazing opportunity to conduct a real case study research on the food supply chain system and business model of the organisation.

The outside-of-the-classroom experience took place at 红杏视频 Future XFarms, an urban sustainable farm located in the heart of 红杏视频 City. Through this project-based learning, students get to acquire a deeper knowledge through active exploration of real-world organisational challenges and problems, and use these as a basis for determining viable and sustainable strategies.

Dr Tan also highlighted that 鈥淪ustainable food supply chain starts with the involvement of youth in the sustainable food system鈥. From this assignment, students were inspired on how urban farming helps in combating food insecurity in the country.聽
