Overview
This course aims to understand the emerging and impactful developments in biomedical sciences through a multidisciplinary approach, making it suitable for students from diverse academic backgrounds. It examines how biomedical innovations such as precision medicine, microbiome, and regenerative medicine are shaping the future of human health as well as addressing their ethical, technological, and economic implications. Students will be exposed to cutting-edge research, case studies, and real-world applications, and will develop the ability to critically analyse biomedical advancements in the context of global challenges such as pandemic preparedness, sustainability, and healthcare equity.
On completing the course, students will be able to:
- Analyse ethical issues in emerging biomedical technologies (C4, PLO11)
- Objectively-interpret biomedical trends to identify research and business opportunities (A5, PLO6)
- Formulate a strategic business pitch for a novel biomedical innovation (A4, PLO10)
