Planetary Health Policy Bootcamp and Community Sports Day

Youth involvement in policymaking is crucial because young people bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a deep understanding of emerging challenges such as climate change, technology, and social justice. Their participation ensures that policies are more inclusive and reflective of the needs of all generations, particularly in shaping the future they will inherit. Engaging youth also fosters a culture of civic responsibility and empowerment, equipping them with the skills to contribute to society as informed and active citizens.

The lack of programmes supporting youth in policymaking is detrimental as it hinders the development of future leaders who can drive positive change. Without such initiatives, young people are excluded from decision-making processes that directly affect their futures, leading to policies that may not fully address their needs or perspectives. This exclusion also limits the diversity of ideas and innovation in policy solutions, stifling progress on critical issues such as climate change, education, and social equity. Furthermore, it discourages civic engagement among youth, weakening democratic participation and long-term societal development.

In light of that, the Planetary Health Policy Bootcamp and Community Day, in collaboration with the Malaysian Public Policy Competition (MPPC) was conducted to connect current policymakers to the next generation, giving the youth an access point into the policy ecosystem, and building capacity to raise a generation of democratically engaged citizens.
