Global Health Governance as Public Service (GHGAPS) Malaysia 2025
GHGAPS was launched in 2021 as a pilot programme for three Georgetown University students attending events at the 75th World Health Assembly (WHA). This initiative evolved into an intensive tutorial during the 2022-2024 academic years, resulting in student cohorts attending subsequent WHA sessions as representatives of GHGAPS and Georgetown University. The programme has since developed into an andragogical training model, where students learn from diplomats and public service experts through immersive experiences and collaborative learning.
The GHGAPS framework emphasises a learner-centered approach, helping students from diverse backgrounds gain a deeper understanding of planetary health and global governance while developing essential skills such as critical thinking, leadership, and cross-cultural communication, ultimately fostering confidence to effectively engage the broader governance landscape. Participants will be encouraged to actively apply themselves in the learning process through facilitated writing, listening, and speaking exercises, guided towards empowerment and self-actualisation. GHGAPS, as a non-prescriptive and adaptable educational framework, can effectively be translated across global contexts to prepare youth for their important role as planetary health-informed young leaders of today and architects of the future.
The long-term goal is to cultivate a network of trained youth cohorts in key cities and countries, unified by shared strategic objectives, to foster stronger coordination and boost cross-border collaboration within a cohesive global movement.
