Overview
This course will provide students with an introduction to how different social factors affect language use. Students will explore how identity, globalisation and media shape linguistic choices. They will be able to analyse language use in real-life scenarios and relate it to their own experiences.
On completing the course, students will be able to:
- Apply sociolinguistic concepts to interpret language issues in diverse social contexts through academic texts
- Justify different social factors affecting language use critically
- Differentiate social factors affecting individual language use effectively
