Crosscultural Communication

Overview

The 21st century has become the era of cross-cultural communication as a result of increased connectivity in our world. Information technology, intensified migration and work opportunities make intercultural communication skills an essential component of working life. The rationale for this course is to make learners aware of their own cultural values and memberships and offer an opportunity to analyse, critique, probe, and make connections with their own and other cultures. While they do this, they acquire important skills that they can apply in their everyday communicative situations. The course also offers opportunities for participants to improve their general English language skills and enhance their communicative competence.

On completing the course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of their own cultural values, norms, and memberships
  2. Analyse cultural assumptions, biases, and practices of their own and other cultures
  3. Respect cultural diversity
  4. Show effective use of verbal and non-verbal communication skills in English to engage in intercultural discussions
