Biography
Shamirul Islam (PhD) is a Lecturer in Human Resource Management at ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Business School, ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University, Malaysia. He earned his PhD in Business from Taylor’s University, his thesis delved into the role of high-involvement work systems and employee competence in managing workplace presenteeism and reducing turnover intentions. Shamirul’s research interests span strategic human resource management, workplace presenteeism, corporate social responsibility, and employee well-being, focusing on organizational and higher education contexts.
Shamirul has co-authored 14 journal articles published in journals such as Journal of Cleaner Production, Employee Relations, Higher Education, International Journal of Bank Marketing, and Journal of Organizational Effectiveness: People and Performance. He has presented his research at academic conferences at the University of Leeds, ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University, and Taylor’s University. His commitment to academic excellence was recognized with the Emerald Literati Award 2024 for Outstanding Reviewer for Employee Relations. Shamirul actively contributes to the academic community as a member of the editorial boards for Employee Relations, International Journal of Bank Marketing, Career Development International, and Education + Training. He also serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for over 17 peer-reviewed journals.
Shamirul has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Final Year Project, Strategic Human Resource Management, Strategic Management, Leading in the Age of Digital Disruption, Principles and Practices of Management, Human Resource Management, Business Ethics, and Research Methods. He has collaborated with industry partners such as Keypath and LINC Education, contributing to curriculum design for postgraduate courses tailored to the real world.
Shamirul serves as the Program Leader for the Master of Management and as the Early Career Researcher (ECR) Representative at ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Business School. In these roles, he leads program development, facilitates research initiatives, and mentors early career academics, embodying a commitment to academic excellence and professional growth.
